President Muhammadu Buhari has, for the first time since returning from his 49-day medical vacation in the UK, failed to attend Friday Juma’at prayer at the Presidential Villa.

While dignitaries such as Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, and Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara were seen at the mosque, President Buhari was conspicuously missing.

It would be recalled that Buhari had similarly missed Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, igniting speculations that the president’s health had deteriorated.

Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu had said Buhari’s absence at the weekly cabinet meeting was in compliance to his doctor’s advice.

“President Buhari’s absence at the federal executive council meeting of Wednesday, April 26, was a last minute decision; otherwise, the cabinet and the public might have been alerted in advance. As eager as he is to be up and about, the president’s doctors have advised on his taking things slowly.

“President Buhari himself, on his return to the country, made Nigerians aware of the state of his health while he was in London. Full recovery is sometimes a slow process, requiring periods of rest and relaxation, as the minister for information, Lai Mohammed, intimated in his press briefing after the FEC meeting on Wednesday,” Shehu had said.

Meanwhile, former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has predicted that all hell will break loose if the president dies in office.

“If the President dies whilst on the throne there will be chaos, carnage and destruction on an unprecedented and massive scale in our country because his core northern support- base will unleash mayhem on Nigeria and particularly on southerners and Christians that reside in the north,” said Fani-Kayode.
